Joan T. Oben, BA Degree - Accounting
Joan is a native of Tampa, FL and holds a B.A. Degree in Business Administration majoring in Accounting from the University of South Florida (USF) Tampa. While attending USF, Joan was employed at Taliaferro & Assocs. PR firm as their Accountant. Upon graduation from USF, she joined Gil Rodriguez & Pitcher CPAs in Tampa as their Staff Accountant preparing corporate and individual tax returns and client write-up. A few years later, she joined Reflectone, Inc., a publicly traded aviation simulator company, as a General Accountant where she learned SEC compliance procedures and job-cost/mfg. accounting for the parent company & its subsidiaries. Later, she joined her family's residential piling construction company as their Accountant where her major responsibilities were in the area of Cost Accounting.
After living on the East Coast of Florida and raising her 3 children, Joan moved to Ft. Myers, FL where she was employed at US Homes (now Lennar Homes) as the Staff Accountant reviewing HUD closing statements, working closely with the title companies, reconciling wire transfers and preparing payroll for the local region that had sales of $200 million. In 2000, she transferred to the US Homes in Clearwater, FL.

Joan then joined Walter Industries of Tampa, FL as Staff Accountant for their subsidiary, Mid-State Homes, where they financed approximately 16,000 mortgages for Jim Walter Homes. Her responsibilities included Trust Accounting, which included reconciliation of mortgage payments to the various related trusts, cash management and AR. In 2004, Joan moved back to Fort Myers, FL as Controller for a new family construction company building residential homes.
In January 2009, we were pleased to have Joan join Massie & Reilly, CPAs as a Staff Accountant. Her responsibilities include preparation of individual/corporate tax returns, business start-up, payroll, QuickBooks training, monthly accounting, preparation of financial statements & various other accounting functions. In her spare time, Joan enjoys sailing, gardening, and spending time with her family.
